Our story

On 15th November 2023, a coalition of political, faith and civil society leaders came together in a collective moment of mourning and solidarity for all those lost and suffering in Israel and Palestine.

We put out an appeal to the public to join us for a sombre moment of reflection and togetherness — without flags or placards.

Hundreds of people answered the call at short notice, gathering in Westminster to offer thoughts, love and prayers. Many more sent messages of support.

Realising there was a need for a much bigger moment of unity, we quickly arranged a second vigil in central London on Sunday 3rd December.

Thousands of people stood with us and, together for humanity, making it the first mass event of its kind in the UK.

Our vigils were just the start. Now, we’re working to turn a moment into a movement – one that holds hope for peace, stands against prejudice, and reminds us all of the importance of placing our common humanity above all else.

We hope people will take inspiration from it and organise their own moments of togetherness at a local level to bring people together to focus on our shared humanity and our rejection of hatred.

Alongside Together for Humanity, /together leads and supports a number of other major national campaigns.

The UK’s annual Thank You Day is a campaign led by /together, which aims to break down barriers by bringing people together to give thanks for everyone and everything that makes their community a great place to live. 6.3 million people participated in Thank You Day in 2023, and the campaign returns in 2024 on Sunday 7th July.

As part of the His Majesty The King’s Coronation, the Big Help Out brought together over 7 million people to volunteer on 8th May 2023. In 2024, the Big Help Out is returning to transform communities through the power of volunteering and to once again mobilise millions to lend a hand to a worthy cause.

We’re part of /together.

/together is a coalition that everyone is invited to join, from individuals and community groups to the UK’s best known businesses and organisations.

Our aim is to build kinder, closer and more connected communities by bringing people together and bridging divides.
